Lionel's Classic Period Freight Cars.

800 Series Large Eight Wheel Cars
The 812 and 2812 Gondolas

This is a larger picture of a Lionel 2812 gondola car. This car is a 1940 notch car. It has the later rubber stamped orange color with nickel plates. This car has four Lionel Lines plates, and no number plates. It could have been made in 1942 using parts left over (Lionel was forced to stop making trains in April of 1942 by the war department, and used up the parts inventory in creative ways so they would have trains to sell), or it could have been a factory error that resulted in the use of no number plates. These orange cars with nickel plates can be found with four Lionel Lines plates, or two LL plates and a pair of either 812 or 2812 plates.

In the future I will add a table listing all the known variations of these cars.
