408E standard gauge loco..textured paint??

from the shelf, this appears an ordinary apple green 408E..however, there is a rough texture to this one--it looks like sand in the paint/texture nearly throughout the piece....I know Ives did this on accessories and loco`s...did Lionel? this is 100% original Lionel paint..thoughts?

I have seen this effect on items that have been exposed to very hot conditions over a period of time, because it is lead-based paint. Do you see any other symptoms of hot storage such as melted wires, may have also affected motor parts. Because the bumps are dark, it looks like the paint is separating.

no melted wires, it runs great but wheels are terrible..so caused by attic heat? this is ashame because it appears used very little..

I had a maroon 212 Gondola like that. Marty Visnick told me it was due to the freeze and heat cycles in basements and attics. Looking at the 212 closely it didn't have the same finish as the crackle maroon sides on a 126 station.
