Title: 1931 Lionel Service with Repainting option

I just saw this form on eBay. It's actually a letter Lionel sent a customer that has an area where they check off what will be done to the train and what it will cost.

It reads like an acknowledgement of receipt and an estimate.

Here it is:

 

Note the row of options:

• No letter received explaining why returned
• No repairs necessary
• Put in good condition
• repainting
• Made up in like new condition
• Made up for salable stock
• Exchange for new model
• Beyond repair see below for exchange offer

I bet the "made up for salable stock" option is for stores without repair facilities. Beyond repair is probably Lionel paying for the parts value in order to get the customer to buy a new train.

I am sure I saw Lionel paperwork from the 1920s that offered repainting with the note that items sent in for painting would be painted the next time the factory used that color. This is a receipt with the option of Lionel accepting a train for repainting.

I know this all makes sense, but were not there yet. Maybe a little closer.
