Title: 248 no door handles??

 Is this a rare car. I noticed no door handles.

Looks like it has been modified with a "block" of some kind between the frame and the shell.

 What's your take on no door handles, I don't even see hole that the handles would fit in

The 248 electric with no handrails at the sides of the doors is an Ives body that Lionel is using from stock. These bodies were Lionel Irvington production made in the early 1930's. This body only seems to show-up on terra cotta 248's.
The black wood block is a modification, not factory, possibly to raise the body so an E-unit reverse will fit????
