General Discussion / Site Dead?

I sent a friend here to join up as he is into Prewar trains and told him to check the site out.
He messaged me this reply,
"The site is dead. The last update was in 2021 and the discussion board was ended and unplugged."

Dead?

Brian I think the baggage doors are the same on all the cars. I looked at a 310 and a 419. The doors are the same, buit a little more is shown lengthwise on the bigger cars.

So if they are the same, then it's a factory error or special with the orange doors from a peacock 10 set.  It's a neat addition to your collection as you get more depth.

Terry. I bought this.   Only the second orange baggage door I have seen.  I have the other one.  It came in a set with orange windows with a 380e.   I also have a set of Mohave 418, 419, 490 cars that have orange windows, baggage doors and people doors.   The only other set of those I have seen was on a visit to John DeSantes.  He thought they were paint samples.  I lean toward a factory oops.  They may have needed several baggage or people doors, we’re out of maroon paint, and just painted them orange cause that’s what was in the gun/vat.

Here's a 114 boxcar for Harmony Creamory:

This one has been painted black everywhere except for the decaled areas. The blue cover TCA book shows a 114 like this that isn't repainted so at least 2 of these exist.

Here's the Stout listing if you want to see more pictures or follow the auction:

Here's an interesting 6014 style car.

Plain white with no lettering in 6014-335 box.  The 6014-335 is a white bplastic car lettered for Frisco from the 1960s. This might just be a factory error car.

Here's Stout auction:

Interesting.

Stout auctions listed a Green 9 set with an orange door baggage:

The only other use of orange doors was on the peacock 332 baggage.  I don't have a 332 baggage to compare this with, but maybe the door was switched? When tjhis et was made they still had maroon doors for the apple green and mohave 419 combines.

Here's the auction:

Nice clean looking outfit!  I never heard of Bailey's or a Bailey Special. I wonder what the History and Newspaper ads are that they mention.

Here's an interesting train set:

The listing says the loco box is dated 1930. I had that loco with and without the stripe. I think the stripe version is more common. The observation is common. Check out the factory error baggage with end doors. You see those in orange, but not often in other colors.

This 1930 Bailey Special Set looks to be assembled from obsolete inventory. They probably painted the locos up to match the cars. I think they did the same with the 253 in dark green with orange windows/cast headlight to get rid of dark green 610 cars.

Here's a video of the Nason Atlantic pulling some Lionel cars and the Nason Interurban on the layout:

So far it took me about 8 hours a foot to do the track. I did the gray track, the track with tan roadbed is from 1937.  I spent a lot of time getting the rails perfect, but didn't pay much attention to the 3rd rail. I need to raise it in some areas.

The Atlantic doesn't like the switches. The points are just pinned. I need to clean and repair the points and frogs so they sit correctly.

The interurban will only run counter-clockwise. There is a warped insulator on the underside of the loco and I think it's snagging on rail spikes.

I'm going to add outside pickups to a Lionel 004 Semi-scale Hudson loco and convert it to DC this weekend. I also do a full scale Hudson for the layout.

I'm having fun.
