Very cool images, especially the Standard table layout with Lionel No 6, No 7, No 42, Ives stations with domes and tunnels look like Marklin?

I had a very similar set, also boxed, that I sold to the late Bill Tardy in the parking lot at the 2001 or 2002 TCA convention. That set went to auction when Bill died a few years later.
It sure is a pretty set. I got it by trading an Ives double station with glass dome for it.

Like anything there is a learning curve. The important thing is to have fun while doing it. I usually make some mistakes and discover things that should have been included, but there is always "next time", always another video to make. I had a dog fall over in the video I am currently working on and decided just to include a caption that he was sleeping, rather than re-shoot the whole scene. I have had unexpected crashes and run-away locos, but have used these clips to add a little humor to the production.

Mr Dog, your streamliners look great flying around the layout.

Mr Dog, you videos have come a long way. The new camera has great clarity and you have good lighting. I like your use of a title page, text on the scenes and transitions. It looks like you have the hang of the moviemaker program.

Good for a start, but you need more lighting on the subject. The camera may be sensing the light from the window wells and stopping-down the exposure, so covering the windows and spots on the layout would make a big difference. Try spot-lighting a corner of the layout with the camera on a tripod and run the train past the camera. I think you will like the results.

I go to files, create a new folder with the project name, move the group of files to that folder, then delete the non-video files. I change the file names to large icons, so it is easy to tell the video clips from the non-essential files that always come along with them. I review the clips from the folder, not from the stick, and rename them with subject and good/bad so they are easy to use when assembling a video. Then I go to that folder when I "add a clip" from the Moviemaker program. I keep still photos in a separate folder from the videos. It is just a matter of having a system and practicing.
I do not clear the stick until I remove it to put back in the camera for the next session.

Collector Corner / Re: Some Interesting Lionel Items

I noticed the 116 in dark green with early nickel trucks. I also have dark green 116 that is an extra, so I was going to sell it, but it bothered me that it had the early nickel trucks. It seems that dark green is too late for the 100 series type 3 truck, however Standard of the World states this truck was used until 1924. I guess that I answered my own question, but it still looks odd to see the early trucks on a dark green 116.
When you find local trains is it from other collectors in the area, or are there still "original owner" trains in Arizona?

I believe that Lionel used both processes in the early period, pre-1925. After that most items were dipped through 1934.
After that (1935 to 42) mostly sprayed, except tinplate frames were still dipped.
The best way to confirm is to look at the finish and see orange-peel texture (spraying) or runs and thin/thick areas (dip painting). As you stated dip painting often filled holes in vents and mount holes in accessory bases. Dip painting also made for bubbles or "snotters" on frame ends, which often flaked off. This can be seen on freight car frames as late as the early 1940's.

General Discussion / Re: The ebay rant.
« on: May 29, 2021, 04:38:53 AM »
I recently sold a Lionel standard ga 10 electric to a low-number buyer in a remote area of California, one of our most-expensive shipping zones. The listing clearly stated in 2 locations that it had original wheels, would sit ok on track but that the wheels had fatigue and would need to be replaced if the loco was to be run. He contacted me, after having it more than a week, and said there was a broken wheel flange and the loco derails when he runs it and wants to return it. I factually pointed out that the listing stated the condition of the original wheels and that they would need to be replaced if it was to be run. If a wheel broke, it was because he ran it without replacing them. There was no communication back from him for almost a week, until this morning he opened a case to return it for a refund.
Ebay automatically approves the return, he will return it in who knows what condition. We will not only lose the sale, but the cost of shipping and repairs so it can be sold again.
Many aspects of the Ebay system are seriously flawed and biased towards the buyer, especially to buyers who are dishonest, ignorant or otherwise do not follow basic rules of common sense.
Reviewing his low feed-back, shows that he has done this to other sellers. It is likely his feedback number is low because he was blocked by so many sellers that he had to come back with another ebay name. Ebay has his address and info, why do they allow this?
Most of our transactions are good, but the occasional A-hole like this makes me wonder why we put ourselves through this torture.

Now that is one of the coolest pictures that I have seen in a long time. Great idea to merge your 118 with a postcard! A great vintage illusion.

I looked and Chartpak tape is still available, and is on Amazon.

That is not bad bleed. As I said the tape stripes I talked about would fix it right up. It might look good with red pin stripes.

I remember seeing the Green AF Vandy tender when I would visit Frank. He used to boast that it was the only piece of AF that he had. I don't remember seeing it when Shirley auctioned his stuff, so wonder where it went. This and the different color Pipers, must have been paint samples that walked out the door or were sold from the Chicago showroom.

When you start a project you don't stop until it is done, great dedication. Also nice results, the yellow/brown streamliner looks great.
Just an FYI, you mentioned a problem with paint bleed under masking tape, though I did not notice it.
I have used different thicknesses of striping tape that I got at an art store, made by Chartpak, to hide the line between colors when needed. Not sure if this is still available, because art of this type is all done on computers, not the drawing board now. I used it a lot in the 1990's when making prototypes for Marx Trains. I would clear-coat the model after, to help keep the tape secure.
