General Discussion / Armature vs. Commutator

I'm looking for a consensus between what exactly the armature is and what the commutator is. Ive seen both terms used interchangeably for the same thing. Can you experts out there help me with this query? I always thought the spinning part was the armature and the entire assembly with brushes and all was the commutator. Yes/No?  Help!

Share some photos of custom or refurbished trains. I truly admire those Marx toy engineers that designed these trains to survive the battle of time. There are many that I dare not change, but once in a while I get badly neglected train that needs a new life. Such is the case with this Marx Union Pacific M10000 Streamliner. Why anyone would do that is beyond me. I tried to salvage by removing the old paint but was unsuccessful. The motor was overhauled, not working at all, runs beautiful now. The shell I went with a 2-tone flat/gloss black look. I call it the "Darth Vader" look. I hope others will add to this post, I totally enjoy this train fellowship on this site. How To and Technical Information / Loco stalling on insulated track, why?

I have two sections of insulated track on my outer loop that when the train goes over it activates an accessory. For some reason I have 2-3 locomotives that whenever they get to the insulated track they stop dead, all of my other Marx locomotives run perfectly well over these sections. Does anyone have any clue why this is happening or if there is a fix for it? I'm befuddled.

Does anyone have any input/advice/experience on using these "grains of wheat" LED lights (12v I think) on their O gauge layout. I would like to use some on my layout (inside buildings). Transformer help (I have a Lionel ZW that I run everything on now). Is a converter needed?

Original design had to be inverted to accommodate the room layout. Everything on the table is Marx except track and switches (Lionel). Started in 2015.

How To and Technical Information / Marx William Crooks repair

Have never rebuilt a William Crooks but many other Marx motors. Just wondering about the drivers, if they come off and go back on as easily as the Baldwin drivers, Also right now I notice the drive rods go opposite one another, is this common? Should I pair them the same?
