Here's an early Lionel 700 loco. Later one without gold vents. What's the screw on wheel hub for?

 

The upper right wheel. I've not seen that before.

I would guess the screw is because the cast iron wheel was slipping on the axle. It would have been easier to create some grooves on the axle with a chisel to provide "grip", than drill and thread a wheel hub, but maybe the guy was a machinist.

That's an interesting fix. You can see that the axle doesn't extend to the end of the wheel so it way have a wider stance on that end. It might need an adjustment to fit between the rails.

That 700 with the added screw went for $788 with 3 bidders over $750. Insane.

This first one has a nice OUTFIT 160 in brown with a good looking MFG box. The trains look awful nice. I can't tell if they've been repainted. The 150 loco has solid drive wheels so they have no doubt been replaced. The other is a OUTFIT 92 box but it's stuffed with 2-rail mechanical track. The trains for this box are included in the other auction.

This lot has a nice 152 in Grey with brass handrails along with a 529 & 530 in Dark Green which is OUTFIT 92 so it should be in the box in the other auction instead of the track. Also in this lot is a 153, 800, 801, 802, 804, & 901 along with a LOT of other prewar trains.

These are from Jackson's International in IOWA.....30% Juice!

I bet that 150 set is repainted.

Here's something weird - 1994 test shots of the surviving tooling made in 1938 for Lionel's 00 line.

I have a 402 loco that has been removed from the base. It was one of my first ebay purchases. It was $11, and might have been postpaid!

Here's maybe a third version of the 402 paperweight:

 

This one doesn't say "Silver Jubilee" and is gold tone. Might just be the 1923 version spray painted gold.

Here's something interesting:

 

Lionel printing plate with train sets from the late teens. That's a 4-wheeled 53 loco on the top set so from 1915-20 era.

Neat, but $150 seems a bit steep to me. There were lots of these plates on ebay 20 years ago.

I had a couple of these about 20 years ago, but $$ just sitting in a showcase, so I sold them.

HA! It's ALL just sitting in a showcase or on a shelf. I have 3 Print Blocks. One is a page from the 1915 Catalog, One is Outfit 163, and one is a dealer/newspaper block.
