Title: LIONEL 263E/263W
Post by: CNJRR on January 06, 2021, 03:45:16 PM
Sticking to as why the site was started.
Prewar,  I have a couple things I can add.

Busy day around the yard.
263e/263w Gun metal Gray. (They also had a Blue #263e locomotive to pull the Blue Comet.)
Made 1938/39.

You can post any kind of toy train as long as it's made before 1970. So far the board is mostly prewar because that's what I collect and what the collectors I know collect.

I have a 263E blue comet with the 263W and 613/614/615 cars I kept to run on my layout.

Over the years I've pulled at least a half dozen O gauge blue comets from the original owner or descendants. Even the boxed ones were beat up.

Who made your turntable? It is nice, because large enough to hold most any L&T, maybe not a Hudson. An O gauge turntable is the one thing that my layout lacks. I have a 1-gauge roundhouse for Standard Gauge, but just a single switch at the entrance. You can see videos of my layout, click the link below.

Yeah, I know.  I figured I would start with my Prewar first. :)
I am a big fan of the Blue Comet.

Are you saying when you got them most were trashed up?

I am surprised the you never saw one?
That is the Atlas turntable. I bought that with the roundhouse for $125. The bridge on it is 26".
That was in 2008 ish. Now they list it as a Atlas #6999. And it says the bridge is 24".

It was the cheapest turntable out there at the time. Back then they were going for around $200 for just the turntable.
I don't like the white and have been thinking about weathering it up............since I had it.  :)

Back then there were other O turntables, the cheapest was around $600, some going for $1500 to $2000 bucks!
I was unwilling to toss the bucks out for one, but they really looked good compared to this one. They actually had a sunken pit and looked more realistic.
Plus this one all you need to mount is a level spot on your table, the others you have to cut a hole.

Didn't have a chance to look at the videos yet.

I too like the turntable. I’ve always wanted a turntable. I’ve even add to the layout for one. Have thought of it many times. We use to have three cars now we just have one so I can do an expansion!

I knew you had nice stuff from what I could gather from the background of your pictures!

I guess that I never saw the Atlas turntable, because, never had a large enough operating layout, until just recently.

Here is one of the other turntables out there.
With options it can be over $2000 !

Too much for cheap old me.  :) But nice.

Millhouse puts out this one, one option is a 28".

Bowser made one when they were in business.
One might be able to get a used model. They made up to a 32" model.

Kitwoodhills makes this one, I don't know about these.

I was wrong saying mine was 26", it is 24".
I measured it again after seeing all advertised at 24"
