General Discussion / Re: Recent Additions

Just picked up a couple of great additions:

Original Lionel Racing Automobile Outfit Instruction Sheet. Never seen one before!

Lionel's 1st "short" loco Outfit 160 with dark green 150 and matching 600 Pullmans.
This dates to late 1917 - early 1918. The 1st Outfit 160's had the "long body" 150. Same size as the 700.

Found and bought off eBay. I contacted the seller and learned these were purchased from an estate sale.
Good Stuff is still out there!

Thanks, Jim. I liked your article on the 87 Rheostat. I also liked the large pictures. So much easier to actually see what one is looking at.

Terry,

The first post under "Recent Additions" was yours and also a Black reverse lettered 33! So you have 33, 33'S?

Terry, I also had one with pebble back doors years ago. I loaned it to Lou Redman to study but for some reason, I never got it back. I like the painted couplers on yours, mine were unpainted. Only a select group can appreciate these subtle differences. Nice Find!

General Discussion / Tony Hay

For those of you who may have not heard, Tony Hay has passed away. He was a long time friend and even longer time seller of trains. His monthly lists helped build train collections and had a finger on the pulse of prices. Sadly missed.

I remember the listings. Here's a 1924 that recently sold for $77.01.

Terry, I see all that train stuff was taken down. No more 55,000 items, now 21. Still a couple of outrageous items... Forklift and Boom Truck!

Terry, yes the 154 is a late body, wide frame. I didn't have one in dark green. This one showed up in the condition I wanted so I filled a hole with that one. I don't have a dark olive 154 either. Clipped Corner Cabooses are harder to find than the CC Boxcars. I'd like to have an orange roof CC 800 Boxcar so I keep looking.

Back from YORK. Good weather, hotter near the end of the week. 30 degrees warmer than back home in the Detroit area! Turnout seemed light to me. Saw Tony Hay at the Wyndham. Haven't seen him here for a while. I did come away with a few items.

1915 801 Wabash Clipped Corner Caboose

Wide Frame Late Body 154

Main Prize was this Dark Grey 150

Terry, It's a thought but, but at 72 I'll just stay inside the box. I do collect Lionel ads & paper up to 1927. Occasionally I stray as I have recently picked up a 1908 VOLTAMP catalog.

Terry, We'll see about YORK. Oct 2022's only purchase was an unopened wooden bulb holder. April 2022 got me the apple 153. Purchases are few and far between, but then I'm not lacking very much in early Lionel O gauge, probably about a half dozen with half being upgrades besides color locos. The quest goes on! I like your 152! Condition is real nice.

Terry, I bid on this lot also! I was probably your underbidder! I also wanted the pea green152 and did some ciphering like you did. Congratulations! Nice pickup!!

Terry,

Even though he eludes to it in the description he neglects to show the end of the loco which would provide the definitive proof of it being a late 154 body. There should be a cutout in the end for the late body to clear the screw head holding the hand reverse to the frame. If it was the early 154 body it would have the flaps which would never fit on a 152 frame.
