Post by: murph-7 on January 21, 2021, 05:11:43 PM
1928 supplement catalog showing new items just released. Actual scans. Was not in color. Front cover shows the new Hell-Gate bridge, back cover showing the 840 Power Station.

Lionel's catalog art was so dramatic..... how could a kid in the 1930's or us big kids now, resist these accessories.

The catalogs I had as a kid where smaller than a comic book. I use to carry them with me everywhere.
I always dreamed of getting a Lionel turbine but never did. Fathers said I had enough engines.

Didn’t get a turbine until 1984.

That's a really nice piece. I agree that the artwork make everything irresistible. The only thing standing in the way was the family income.

Income, or lack of, became the biggest issue in 1929 and into the early 1930's. Great time for Lionel to introduce the State set! Weren't the AF Mayflower and Ives Prosperity made in the same time frame?
