Good case study, info should come in handy for someone looking.  :)
Now I got to look and see if I have one.

Nice set, I never saw one like that.
Curious, do you polish it?

In North America they were called Torpedo's.
Elsewhere they used the name Detonator's.

Nice, with the box too.
Sometimes the box is worth more then the trains.

I never saw that, I mainly shop older train stuff.

What is the noise in the back ground in the video?
Sounds almost like a cow mooing? Goes moo moo , but more of a maw maw.

About 60* in my basement in the summer, here in NJ. A bit colder in the winter, I use a portable heater to heat it up some.
The trains and me stay cool in the summer.
Sometimes I turn off my central air when I go down in the basement because it is too cold down there.
Going down now to vacuum, mainly to get the spiders. Then I apply some pet friendly insect spray to try to keep the spider population down.
This week high in the 90's with high humidity. I just weeded my small garden and watered the plants, I am soaked in sweat!
Now down to the cool dungeon. :)

You all know that they sell Mini cameras to mount on the trains?
They are real small. And not too expensive.

All mine are in the basement, cold in the winter and cold in the summer because of my Ac unit.
I don't have many with the electronics but if I did I would do like you do. For peace of mind. :)
If I was in Florida (which I would never live, I hate jungle weather) I would make sure my garage is well insulated with an AC unit.
For sure!
Last year I had my central AC and heater unit replaced.
Close to 10k but well worth the money, I am saving on electric and gas big time now.
Plus I had rebates and tax write offs that totaled close to 2k.
So it was 8k well spent.
My garage is the same as yours, last year (summer) I painted the inside in the 90* weather.
I bought a big fan and installed it on a TV wall mount, I can direct the air with the swivel mount to any part of the garage.
It comes off easy to use on the floor if needed.
Having air blow on me kept me sort of cool while painting, matter of fact I will take it off and use it outside while working on my pickup truck or car.

OK, I was talking about the car body, I thought it might have had some pitting to the metal.
Like my 616 Flying Yankee locomotive.

I tried to add a picture to show you but it is too large.
Can't mess with it right now, got to run.

And blasted cars first. Then wire wheel. Then soaked in white vinegar. All these remove rust.

OK, but it must have had some pitting? The one car looks like it had it?
If so, how did you handle the pitting before painting?

It came out OK?
Maybe speed up the beginning showing before and after? And add your voice explaining instead of the words?
Those trains really rocket around your table ! :)
How did you tackle the rust decay on the cars?

Here's something interesting:

1935 Lionel 35th anniversary paperweight paper clip holder.  Usually these are missing the planes.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/254999185601

I never saw one of those.
Bids over $400 right now, I will never own one. :)
