This is a very late 152 based on the brass handrails, square brush plate, and especially the pickup with ribs on the arms and lubrication instructions. 1927 or later in a closeout. The box is comparable to the ones I have.

Mike - so being that late, the 152 loco would have came in a setbox with the trains in individual boxes? All my boxed early sets have cardboard deviders, but I only have a handful of them. So 1925 was when the setboxes lost the dividers?

Terry, I have heard the year 1925 for boxed outfits that have individual boxes. That 96 Outfit that just sold on eBay for over $2k was only available in 1925 but that had the dividers. I have 3 Outfits that date to 1926 & 1927 with individual boxes.

Here's something interesting from the early 1930s:

Small cardboard tube that seems to have come with a 258 or 262 set from the 1931-33 period.

Here's the full shot from the auction:

I'm guessing about the sets based on the sellers other listings.

Any idea what the tube is for? It says Lionel on the other side.

Here's the listing:

Here's an interesting item:

Appears to be a black 385E loco.

That's a PA auction house.

The early 385E locos are a very dark gunmetal gray, may be the case here, does not look black to me. Also doubt Lionel would trim a black loco with copper.
Terrible description for this lot, obviously not a 392E, and does not show the whole lot. Noel Barrett used to be associated with Pook and Pook, and would think he would have provided better guidance.

I have an 1835e with copper trim.  A very early one with the two tone blue 309 cars.  I am sure Lionel was using up leftover brass/copper trim during the transition to nickle.

It's so hard to tell with the crap pictures.

I have a 392E in black that looks like that except it's longer. I also have a black 400E with copper and brass trim.

Larry or one of the members in PA might live close enough to drive over and look at it.

Speaking of crap auction houses, I asked the Route 32 people selling  this 8 trolley for more pictures since they only had one in the listing.

Here's the photo in the listing:

Here's the new photos:

I just asked for additional photos. I guess I got what I asked for.

Terry, all the pictures in the Rt32 auction are few & terrible. It's going the cost them in absentee bids.

The route 32 auctions continued the crazy prices we've seen for early trains. I bid on the 706 loco and cars, but didn't get it. I've pretty much decided the 706 loco will be the one thing I'm always looking for in O gauge.

I saw this set on eBay a few days ago and set up a snipe. Green 800 boxcar with some common stuff.

I assume I wasn't the only person who saw it.

I noticed the maroon flatcar, but underside you can see it is a fake.

Terry,
I saw it too. It's a piece I've been looking for for quite a while. The one I have is over painted silver and I think it's posted here somewhere. Anyway, I bid and came in second. If you won it and and are interested in selling it, let me know.
