Here's another interesting small passenger car. The 35 has "New York Central" over the windows and the 36 observation has "New York Central Lines."

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-8-Locomotive-35-Pullman-36-Observation-Maroon-used/174445721153?hash=item289dc67641:g:NHsAAOSw8vpfaN3s

Based on just the steps, the 35 body is earlier than the 36.  Interesting.

I have a dark oilve green 35 with just New York Central that has stamped brass steps rather than the soldiered steps on the maroon car above.

I won't be bidding on this lot so have fun.

The NYC with no Lines cars are very late production. I have seen them in maroon and dk olive, mainly pullmans, not observations.

Lionel "Prototype" 12 gondola
« Reply #47 on: September 25, 2020, 06:38:22 PM »
Here's a "prototype" Lionel 12 gondola in a Auction on Oct. 17th

I'm not sure what that really is, but it looks old.

Here's more photos:

That auction features some interesting items. Black 212 gondola is probably constructed with parts.

The early 12 gondola is interesting, but with no history hard to tell if it ever came from the Lionel shops. Definitely old and well-constructed. Wouldn't mind having it, but not at that price.
I agree that the black 212 was likely assembled, using an Ives transition (198?) body.
I had a legitimate 212 in olive, sold it to John DeSantis.

Yep, this is a real interesting piece. Round head screws around the outside and flat heads in the wood floor. I don't see the screws for the trucks on the inside of the wood floor. The car is very well made and nicely hand lettered. I've looked for something similar to try and discern what the body is since this came up on liveauctioneers but to no avail. This auction also contains a 6-wheel 33 and an auction with 4 small STD Ga's, one with reversed stamping. Good stuff in this auction. Too bad no early 0 for me. Oh well, maybe next time.

Here's a first version Lionel 152 with MFG plate, pedestal light and riveted on couplers. I have that loco with the later style couplers and just like that with 150 on the side, but don't care enough to pay $115 postpaid for that one. It's an interesting variation that's much harder to find that the common 152 locos, so it should sell.

Here's a link:

A closer look shows this to be a 154 stamped 152 with an added bonus of a hard to find early tipped bulb!

That's twice I've done that in the past month. I missed out on a Corp era 42 in Dark Olive because I thought it was a repaint. I hope you bought that Mike.

Here's a rare 252 set Stout listed without pointing it out the ILLINOIS CENTRAL cars.

https://connect.invaluable.com/stout/auction-lot/lionel-prewar-252-peacock-loco-with-607-and-608-p_31A401E9EC

Stout has it  estimated at $20-80. I'd say $8-1200 is more realistic. That's a rare set. Last one I heard of selling went for over $3K, but was boxed with 3 cars in 2005. He'll still get a great price becasue the people who know what they are looking at will see it.

Paul's boxcars will soon be on my shelf. I wanted the brown roof one because it has a different data stamp than the brown roof car I have, but it turns out I don't have the orange roof one either.

Terry...I just checked mine and all of them have the same 4 line data stamp that was on the brown roof one that Paul had up for sale. Your post mentioned a different stamp. How about a pic of your different one? Thanks...Mike

Damn it. It turns out I have that car. I'm looking for standard gauge cars with the MCB line shorter than the Length line. Or a brown roof 820 with a long MCB line. That car has a better 6 in the number than mine so it's worth grabbing.

But I do not have the orange roof car. My closest one has 820 rather than No. 820 on end and a short number 65784 with a gold corp stamp on bottom.

Here's a 1914 era black 33 with the postage stamp inside. I've only ever seen this stamp on that loco.
