You said "Here's a Manufacturing 4390 801 caboose with a black cupola. Looks original, but who knows? Color, quality, dust in paint and all that match."

Shouldn't the caboose number be 4890 not 4390? That's what I meant by wrong number.

Now that I realize it's the cupola is black like the roof. Neat.

There are numerous 801 Cabooses stamped 4390 instead of 4890 that have been documented during the Manufacturing period.

I don't remember seeing one with 4390. So that's a double oddity. Interesting number and an all black roof.

I just looked at 90 days of eBay sales and all sold 801 cabooses have 4890.

I'll add that to my list of things to look for.

Here's an interesting 114 boxcar:

Any boxcar with a number other than 98237 is interesting. I have a 114 box car with 54018 on the side, but mine has an embossed MFG floor without the Lionel Lines stamp on the end. That's a car that I'd keep if I got it with other trains, but otherwise wouldn't buy it.

Now here's a really interesting auction. Too bad about the fire but what do you know about a shorty flatcar? I've never heard or seen or recall any mention of one.

I saw that. I think the flat car is the base from the other short 112 gondola with parts added to it.

Two sets there. 1910 round cab with two shorty gondolas and 1911 round cab with two 116 hoppers. What is interesting is the hoppers have couplers with tabs. So does the 1910. I bet the pilots on the locos have been switched.

I'd love to have that slide on headlight.

150 set
« Reply #36 on: August 24, 2020, 02:50:23 PM »
Here's a 150 set with two rare cars - the rarely seen flat car and the new to me caboose with only 3 end railings. Some treasures there.

I understand the sarcasm here, but did you see the 4 wheel flatcar I posted a while back with stamped lettering. I was hoping that someone in the group had some history, or at least an opinion on it. The Upstate Western lettering is rubber stamped in silver.

I saw your flatcar Jim. I don't know what to make of it. It's interesting.

Lionel Pea Green 38 and other items in CONNETICUT
« Reply #40 on: September 13, 2020, 12:08:42 AM »
Here's a few lots of neat standard gauge. Some is repainted, some is original. Someone in the Northeast should go look and bid on it. Of note is the  112 gondola with Pennsylvania on it - I think I havfe one, but can't find it. A 400E and tender, Pea green 38 that might be original, an olive 42 with strap headlight that is probably repainted and more.

This 114 boxcar looks weird. I have one with that number, but in a different font, and mine says CM&stP  on it. That one has no T.

They could be really old repaints?

36 with "Observation Car" on side
« Reply #43 on: September 18, 2020, 07:25:25 PM »
I saw this set on eBay and thought it looked odd with the "observation car" on the side. I have this same car with nickel or bare metal trucks. None of my earlier 36 pullmans with ribs have the word car on the side.

After this they went to the stylized scroll lettering and the numbers were moved to the end. Does this observation come with just the word observation on the side?

Here's the eBay listing:

I also have a 35 and 35 in this series. They have unpainted metal trucks, numbers on sides of cars and 36 is lettered "observation car". This series went through so many changes over its production life.
