early 1920s Lionel lubrication card for O ga motor
« Reply #61 on: October 26, 2020, 12:31:41 AM »
Here's lubrication card for a Lionel Corp. Loco Probably from early 1920s because it looks to have no brush tubes on the brush plate.

I took a look at mine because it was easier to view and it does show an arm from a dog-leg brush plate to the left of the armature shaft. You'll also notice the pickup arms do not show the ribs associated with later pickups.

212 in black????  How many do you want me to make you?   In that condition a $50 late green 212 and a $75 Ives transition gondola and about 20 minutes.  $1200!!!!

I agree, saw that car, the black/nickel trim 212, on the Milestone auction, and thought it would very easy to make for about $150.

Now that I think about it, it would be a bit more complicated. The black Ives transition body would have to be swapped to the nickel trim 212 chassis, as the Ives coupler pockets would be impossible to remove without a trace. Brake-wheels would then have to be remounted, body tabs bent.........all would be hard to do without scratches and paint loss on tabs. Only the buyer will know if the car is original or a Frankenstein.

Lionel 12 gondola with data on left
« Reply #67 on: November 01, 2020, 09:47:00 PM »
Here's a gondola with the number and data on the left rather than on the right. I have this exact car so   it might not be rare, but it's interesting. My car is gray with a dark green trim stripe on the just the frame. Same couplers with coupler hanger bars. Probably a mid-1920s car.

I don't want this one so have fun.

Here's a green 8-stake 831 flat. Definatly worth the opening bid:

That seller has listed some interesting items in the past week or so. I think he also joined the forum, but hasn't posted yet.

Jim - I saw the black 4-stake flat when you listed it on eBay. That was special. I wasn't collecting trains from after 1924 then otherwise I would have been all over that.

Here's a puzzle. . .
« Reply #71 on: November 14, 2020, 06:03:10 PM »
Here's a puzzle for you. What are these?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-prewar-postwar-parts-bulb-covers/143836561962?hash=item217d53c22a:g:ga0AAOSwnF1fpZ-P

It took me a few minutes to figure it out. They have nothing to do with bulbs. They are prewar parts.

He doesn't show the top, but they look like chimneys.

Looks like part of a base for a signal, maybe a 068 or 069 or something .

Mike's a WINNER!

It took me a while to figure that out. The big clue was the three tabs.
